- Designer Mark Hermogeno of San Francisco, CA-based Hermogeno Designs, along with architect Daphe Le, owner of D Design Inc. of Tarzana, CA and general contractors California Dream Remodeling & Construction, renovated a 1,400-sq.-ft. townhouse, including the kitchen, a master bath and a guest bath. Many Universal Design principals were adapted to fit their septuagenarian client’s lifestyle.
- Hermogeno designed the kitchen around his client’s desire to watch television while cooking. To accommodate this, the designer moved a laundry area to another, more convenient spot, knocked out a wall leading to the living room and reoriented a pass-through to the dining room.
- Products specified for the kitchen include a side-by-side counter depth refrigerator, 30" gas cooktop, over-the-range microwave and dishwasher, all from Bosch; a 27" GE single gas oven; Crossville tiles on both the backsplash and floor; quartz countertops in Dusty Stone from CaesarStone, and fixtures from Kohler, including a Simplice faucet in Brushed Nickel.
- Hermogeno designed three baths for his client: a 8'9"x5' master bath, a guest bath, and an upstairs powder room. The master bath features a mix of tile from Crossville, and Nova Blue granite throughout the space, in keeping with the overall colors found in other parts of the redesign: blue, gray, beige and brown. Keeping utility in mind, Hermogeno incorporated a 36"-wide, curved-front vanity that, because the client lives alone, provides adequate storage for his personal toiletries. A glass shelf is mounted to the right of the sink on the wall above the countertop for additional open storage.
