Showroom Offers Hands-On Experience

Erlanger, KY — The owners of Signature Hardware know the importance of the hands-on experience.

As a result, the showroom for the decorative plumbing, hardware and lighting retailer was recently updated to be a space where designers, contractors and homeowners could see, touch and feel products.

“Our products are so unique, seeing them on the Web doesn’t do them justice, like with our copper bathtubs, stone sinks or bronze patina hardware,” says Matt Butler, who is co-owner of Signature Hardware with Mike Butler. “It helps to be able to feel the products and see them in person.”

The addition to the showroom was part of a larger expansion planned for the Erlanger, KY facility. Signature Hardware recently purchased 11.6 acres to the south of the existing building, and in July had a ground breaking for a 90,000-sq.-ft. expansion of the space, expected to be completed by January 2011. The additional warehouse space will enable the firm to increase new product offerings and expand existing lines.

Serving the Customer

Signature Hardware began in 1999 as a decorative plumbing supply company under the name Clawfoot Supply. Changing its name in 2005, the firm has remained true to its plumbing supply roots but has expanded its offering to include home lighting and decorative hardware.

In the updated, 6,300-sq.-ft. showroom, visitors can view some 48,000 items, such as traditional clawfoot tubs, stone bathtubs, air baths, solid brass faucets, door hardware, vanities and more.

“Downstairs there are seven walled bathroom setups, plus three large rooms with open floor plans and decorative columns where we can place any number of items,” notes Butler. “The second floor mezzanine is divided into two rooms. The showroom also has a working display for our air tubs.”

The products featured in the showroom include Nottingham Brass clawfoot tubs, copper tubs and brass goods; the Whittington Collection, which includes modern fixtures, such as free-standing acrylic tubs, vessel sinks, contemporary brass fixtures and door hardware; the Milforde Collection of contemporary bath furniture, and Signature Aire air baths.

Of the 65 current employees at the family-owned company, 13 are customer service representatives trained to work in the showroom. There are also two certified plumbers on-site for technical inquiries. While the staff does not provide design services, it will work with designers to choose the right products to fit their designs, the firm notes.
