One-Room Update Inspires Whole-House Remodel

  • Jim Karlovec, principal and lead designer of Shaker Heights, OH-based Karlovec & Company Design/Build Remodel, completed a near-total remodel of this circa 1919 Cleveland Heights, OH, home, including kitchen, bedrooms, master suite, guest baths and game room.
  • While the remodel of the master suite was considerable, the designer cites the 640-sq.-ft. kitchen as the single biggest challenge both to the budget and the floor plans. Comprising several rooms including a breakfast nook, several pantries, a TV room and the prep/cooking space itself, many structural changes needed to be made, including the relocation of a key load-bearing wall.
  • Products specified for the new space include: (Kitchen) Custom cabinetry from Cabinets by Graber, Asko dishwasher, GE Monogram refrigerator, two Wolf stainless steel ranges, Independent range hood, microwave drawer from Sharp, and faucetry and sinks from Rohl, including the company’s Allia fireclay sink in Biscuit. (Bath) Toto Guinevere toilet, Kohler corner bath in biscuit and dual Caxton sinks in biscuit, accessories and fixtures from California Faucets’ Montecito collection, and Wellborn Cabinet’s maple full-overlay cabinetry in a cherry stain and glaze.
