The built-in seating and garden boxes were roughed-in and then enclosed with decking materials from Trex, trex.com. The plantings are a mix of drought- and wind-tolerant natives, perennials and annuals, which create a four-season showplace. The garden rests upon a deck made of piazza pavers raised by lifts.
The Bristol Condominium’s roof garden achieved second place in Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley’s 2010 Landscape Awards in the High Rise Residential category. The project’s goal was to develop a walking path with various views from the garden while allowing condo owners to admire the garden from the building’s interior. Each garden box is watered with a timed soaker hose distribution system. Low-voltage lighting illuminates the path and accents plants.
