2010 Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence

This year, over 450 projects were submitted and judged on the basis of design, use of materials, craftsmanship and overall impact. Entries came from all across the United States from professional remodelers and design professionals.

2010 winning entries can be seen on the Chrysalis Web site: www.chrysalisawards.com, where all winning projects since 1998 can also be seen.

“This was a very interesting year for Chrysalis,” says Ken Kanline, director of the program. “Considering the state of the economy, you might have expected a significant drop in the number of entries, but that just didn’t happen, which says a lot about this industry. It tells you there are still large numbers of homeowners who want to create their dream right where they live. It also tells you there is always a market for creative and skillful professionals who can turn those dreams into reality. It was also encouraging to see so many new companies participating. We have over 30 “first-time” winners this year, which speaks to the vitality of remodeling across the country.”

One of the new Chrysalis categories in 2010 was Outdoor Living. “We were very pleased with the response to this new category,” says Kanline. “For the past few years the interest in exciting outdoor living spaces has been growing, and this was reflected in the large number of entries we received, and the creativity they reflected.”

The judges this year came from Better Homes & Gardens, Southern Living, and

The American Institute of Building Design. “The judging process is always fun to watch,” says Kanline, “because over three days we get to see what is going on in this industry all over the country. This year the judges were particularly impressed with the quality of the entries, and the value represented by the projects.”
