The task was to design and build a home with incredible southern exposure in all main rooms, space to move and grow, and a quintessential nest with all the necessary elements of a modern home design and the perks of upscale living. It’s Aspen meets New England with a dominating visual throughout of stone and wood, reclaimed 200-year-old white oak flooring from a local barn, four fireplaces and radiant heat to keep things comfortable.
Challenges began in early design stages when the client agreed that the home become a Showcase of Homes entry. The final product is a five-bedroom, seven-bath home. The original design increased the budget beyond the clients’ means, so it was simplified. The main part of the home is a “box,” which is more affordable to build, and space above the garage was utilized to create the desired look, feel and amenities. The redesign won an award from the showcase judges.
