Radiant heating can be an efficient way to heat a room or heat a house, which is why it has become a popular category of products in the last few years. The Protecto Wrap Co. has entered this category with their own product that comes in a kit containing everything needed for installation.
In the May issue of Qualified Remodeler, we introduced you to the Peel & Heat Complete product line of high-performance underlayments from Protecto Wrap. These underlayments are designed for effective crack suppression and radiant in-floor heating. The Peel & Heat Complete system includes prewired heating panels for easy electrical connection to a wall-mounted thermostat. The protective anti-fracture membrane and heat panels are installed in an easy peel and stick method.
The Protecto Wrap Company was created in 1952 by John Hopkins Sr. The company was founded on peel-and-stick, rubberized asphalt tapes used to wrap gas and oil pipelines as well as waterproofing bridge decks and highways.
The company has since expanded into various peel-and-stick waterproofing and weatherproofing systems that include below grade waterproofing; building tapes and flashings; roof underlayments; and anti-fracture flooring membranes.
“Protecto Wrap covers homeowners’ needs from the foot of the foundation to the peak of the roof,” says Timothy Schettler, vice president of sales and marketing. “Protecto Wrap provides a single-source waterproofing/weatherproofing system, leading product warranties, and an excellent support system for identifying and meeting customers’ product needs and expectations.”
Peel & Heat Complete is used under thin-set tile and stone flooring applications. This underlayment has an ultra-thin profile while many products on the market tend to be thicker. This can mean a bigger transition of floor heights between rooms. This product can also save energy. Since it warms rooms efficiently with an Energy Star-rated thermostat, it can serve as a primary or secondary heating system.
Protecto Wrap is continuing to develop the Peel & Heat product line for a variety of applications. Currently, this product is limited to standard widths for interior use under thin-set tile and stone installations. The company continually develops and researches new and better waterproofing and weatherproofing solutions for homeowners by listening to their needs and requirements.
“Many of the products are developed as a direct result from customers’ input,” says Timothy Schettler. “Homeowners will continue to seek solutions that are earth-friendly and reduce energy consumption.”
