Kohler sponsoring green custom home project; providing water savings, EPA Water Sense products throughout the home.

Narragansett, RI – April 17, 2009 – Green Life Smart Life, a Rhode Island-based green building showcase home, is excited to announce the addition of Kohler to the project. Founded in 1873, Kohler is a global leader in the manufacture of kitchen and bath products. Kohler is supplying the home with all of the high efficiency faucets, showerhead fixtures, and EPA WaterSense 1.1 gpf toilets, as well as using Kohler’s Cast Iron line of 93% recycled cast-iron sinks and tubs throughout the home.

Throughout its history Kohler has maintained a deep environmental commitment to their community and the environment by incorporating environmental, health and safety considerations into all company activities. Water conservation is a key objective at Kohler, and the products being used in the Green Life Smart Life home will help the homeowners conserve roughly 32.8 percent over an average family, a projection of more than 93,000 gallons of water annually.

“We are very excited to announce the addition of Kohler to the Green Life Smart Life project,” said homeowner Kimberly Hageman. “The company’s incredible perseverance towards creating eco-conscious solutions for the home, from manufacturing to performance, will allow our family to manage our water consumption with products that beautifully fit the décor and style of our home.”

In addition to water conservation, Kohler’s dedication to environmental consciousness extends to every branch of its business. Their facilities reclaim tons of nickel and chrome previously disposed of as waste, using approximately 200,000 tons of recycled and recaptured metal each year. Product lines, including its Cast Iron products, which are manufactured from 93 percent recycled and reclaimed material, will be used for the kitchen and laundry sinks and well as each of the home’s four bathrooms and the master bath’s clawfoot tub.

Kohler recently launched SaveWaterAmerica.com, a viral campaign dedicated to teach homeowners how easy it is to save water. The website gives homeowners water saving tips and techniques, water saving products, and for every person who takes their survey, $1 will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
