Whether it is a design focal point or a functional component that may not be evident at first glance, the key to any great kitchen or bath product is simple: Make the designer’s job easier, so he or she can make the client’s life easier. For all kitchen and bath designers in search of products that do just that – today’s manufacturers are making sure that things just keep getting easier.
To usher out 2008, KBDN once again showcases its annual offering of most-asked-about-products, a list tallied by reader requests. The results are based on nearly 2,000 reader requests that were received this year.
The selections do not disappoint, as reflected by the number of different manufacturers that offer items rooted in functionality and design flexibility. The diverse mix includes a master bath collection, electrical outlet systems and even a barrier-free shower pan, an item that is resonating with senior consumers – and, at a quickening pace, Baby Boomers – who value a safe shower experience.
Notable is that half of the selections this year were either kitchen storage solutions or countertops with natural wood and recycled glass surfaces, a sign that consumers are eager to keep their kitchen – the multi-functional hub of home activity – as efficient, clean and organized as possible.
Storage products range from wooden drawer inserts and lift systems to wrap dispensers for storing wax paper or aluminum foil. Countertop materials range from American walnut and American cherry wood for the sustainable set, to composites and even substances created with melted glass from shower doors, which create patterns bursting with movement and translucency.
Meanwhile, accent pieces nod to nature, with bronze bamboo hardware pieces making an appearance, as well as natural stone tiles, including a ceramic tile collection that has custom and stock photography options.
While some of the products make designs sparkle, others let the client shine, including shaving and make-up mirrors and designer mirror frames.
KBDN’s most-asked-about products list is a reflection of the products that are of most interest to our readers right now. On this and the following three pages, KBDN recognizes some of the most innovative products of 2008.
