Design Contest Aimed At Italian Ceramic Tile

New York — Ceramic Tiles of Italy has announced a call for entries for the 2009 Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition.

The competition, now in its 16th year, celebrates the outstanding work of North American architects and designers who feature Italian ceramic tiles in their residential, institutional or commercial spaces.

For the 2009 competition, architects and designers are invited to submit new construction and renovation projects completed between January 2004 and January 2009. The projects will be judged on the basis of creativity, functionality and aesthetic appeal, with criteria that encompasses overall design of the project, innovative use of tile, tile design, quality of installation and the degree to which tile enhances the setting, contest officials said.

Winners in each category will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and a trip to Coverings, scheduled for April 21-24, 2009 in Chicago. In addition, an exhibit of the winning projects will be on display during the show. Winners will also be treated to a five-day trip to Bologna, Italy to attend CERSAIE 2009, the world’s largest trade show for ceramic tile and bath furnishings.
