New Web Site Focused on Environmental Program

Orlando — The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) has launched a new Web site –GreenCabinetSource.org– devoted to the KCMA’s “Environmental Stewardship Program,” and promoting environmentally sound practices, the association announced.

KCMA officials announced the launch at the recent International Builders Show (IBS) here, citing the microsite as “an ideal resource for consumers and building professionals to learn about the benefits of ESP-certified cabinets and building an environmentally friendly home.”

The Reston, VA-based KCMA developed the ESP in 2006 to recognize and encourage environmental responsibility within the cabinet industry, as well as to give cabinet manufacturers a means for demonstrating their commitment to the environment.
ESP has grown rapidly over the past year, with nearly 90 certified members currently involved in the program, according to the trade association.

“With the success of ESP within the cabinet industry, we think this is a great time to introduce the program to consumers and building professionals through the launch of the Web site,” said KCMA executive v.p. Dick Titus.

GreenCabinetSource.org is a major step for the Environmental Stewardship Program and one that moves us closer to accomplishing our objective of leading the industry toward a sustainable future,” he added.

GreenCabinetSource.org showcases the environmental and societal benefits of ESP by explaining the program and describing the criteria for certification in easy-to-understand language. The Web site goes into depth on environmentally responsible manufacturing in areas such as sustainable forestry, low product emissions, recycling and energy conservation.

“It was important to us in developing GreenCabinetSource.org that it not only provide information on ESP, but also on sound environmental practices in cabinet manufacturing and the availability of environmentally preferable products,” Titus observed.

“We saw the Web site as an opportunity to educate a broader audience on environmental responsibility and showcase how the cabinet industry is leading by example.”

GreenCabinetSource.org offers educational environmental information, ideas on ways to live a greener life and links to other environmental Web sites. It also features tools to help consumers find ESP-certified manufacturers and cabinets.
