2008 NKBA Design Competition Category 8 Master Suite Bathroom Finalists Offer Unique Design Interpretations Master Suite/Bathrooms (includes closets, dressing rooms, etc.)

Ask Scott and Sandra Gjesdahl about this master suite and they will tell you that opposites attract. Indeed, the trick to fitting his-and-hers spaces into this tight area was to place the vanities side by side in the middle of the room – in opposite directions. The Gjesdahls, of Kirkland, WA-based Bristol Design & Construction, note that the greens and grays of the Costa Emeralda granite countertops complement the Sapele and Wenge custom cabinetry by Bristol Design & Construction. A Kohler Co. sink, shower and fittings, and Toto USA toilet complete the look.

Meant to reflect the grandeur of a French Manor estate, this master suite, designed by Nicholas J. Geragi, CKD, CBD, offers an inspired interpretation of French architecture. In order to accomplish this, Geragi – of Klaff’s, Inc. in South Norwalk, CT – along with Damani King, LouAnn Toress and Joseph Passero – chose a Crème Marfil French antique replica soaking tub, along with an 8' vanity from Klaff’s Custom Cabinetry, positioned to showcase a view of the gas fireplace. A warm, elegant feel is also established through the use of Omni countertops, custom mosaic flooring by New Ravenna Tile and a Crème Marfil sink. The design also includes a Toto USA toilet.

For Holly Rickert of Ridgewood, NJ-based Ulrich, Inc., the whole of this master suite bath is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. Created from a number of small rooms, this bath features a tray ceiling created from unused attic space to create a more open feeling. Cherry cabinetry from Wood-Mode is complemented by cherry tub panels on the centrally located six-foot bubbler tub from BainUltra, which anchors the room. The space is completed with Black Galaxy granite counters, a Kallista sink, fixtures from Jado Bathroom & Hardware and a toilet from Toto USA.

Designed by Wendy R. Mayes, CKD, and Barbara Thiessen of Jan Parker’s Kitchens by Design, LLC in Wichita, KS, this master suite offers all of the conveniences of a luxurious hotel. Indeed, the cherry Wood-Mode cabinetry includes a media tower with a weather radio, TV and stereo, while other cabinets include numerous organizational accessories. The shower area features custom Oceanside glass mosaic Riveria Mist tile and Mystera Sequoia solid surfacing for a speckled look, while Verde Butterfly granite and Mystera Sequoia solid surface countertops complete
the theme.
