Good designers can take a drab space and infuse it with life; master designers take those spaces and perform miracles. They can create an Asian-Arts & Crafts fusion in Wisconsin, seamlessly meld a husband’s Harley-Davidson soul with a wife’s yen for Zen, or make a row house kitchen a premier display space for an artist-client’s most-prized work.
The Master Design Awards, now in their 29th year, honor outstanding building projects in wide-ranging categories that cover the spectrum of both interior and exterior design.
Sponsored by Kitchen & Bath Design News’ sister publication Qualified Remodeler, the contest garners entrants from across the country, who submitted photos and project descriptions to be judged by a panel of their peers.
This year’s distinguished panel included: Michael Menn, AIA, CGR, CAPS of Northbrook, IL-based Design Construction Concepts; Geno Benvenuto of Evanston, IL-based Benvenuti & Stein; Martha Kerr, CKD, of Portland, OR-based Neil Kelly Co.; Bill Milholland of Washington DC-based Case Design & Remodeling, and Chaden Halfhill of Urbandale, IA-based Silent Rivers, Inc.
Judging took place over two days at the Mid-Day Club in downtown Chicago.
Winners were selected for Gold, Silver and Honorable Mention honors in 22 categories including Universal and Green Design. A number of worthy kitchen and bath designers were recognized.
Here, and on the following three pages, KBDN presents the kitchens, baths and designers that received Gold awards in this year’s Master Design Awards.
