29th Annual Master Design Awards: Best Bath Under $30,000

The Asian aesthetic was a favorite this year, reflecting the continuing trend toward clean, classic lines and minimal design in the bath. This southern California powder room won Marrokal Construction Company the gold for its elegant adherence to those design ideals.

This beachside home had only one bath prior to the renovation. During the whole-house remodel, this powder room was added to the primary bath, while a second bath was added to the new second floor. Both were designed with an Asian influence and flavor.

Elements either taken directly from nature or evocative of natural textures garnered the win for the small space. Bamboo stalks cover some of the walls of the room, while others are painted a pale shade of green, the color of beach grass. River rock provides an additional textural element on the floor. Rich espresso wood finishes on the Imperial Custom cabinets provide a contrast to paler elements in the space.

Despite the small footprint of the space, the design team managed to deftly utilize all available space, including enclosing the family’s laundry facilities behind a pair of bamboo closet doors.
