Every month Qualified Remodeler asks a great deal of its readers. We request your insights about the industry and your business via telephone and emailed surveys, as well as through social media. We need you to help us serve this industry, and we wouldn’t have a magazine without you and your contributions.
There probably is no time of the year that we ask more of our readers than during QR’s awards season when we solicit your financials for the Top 500, which appeared in the August issue, and request your most innovative and attractive projects for our Master Design Awards competition. Entering the Master Design Awards program is time-consuming, and those entrants who are thorough with their submissions, ultimately putting the most effort into perfecting their entries, stand the best chance of achieving an award.
All of us recognize winning an awards program, especially one that has been in place for 33 years—like the Master Design Awards—provides many tangible benefits. For example, a Master Design Award creates positive press for a company, the opportunity to be a QR cover story within the next 12 months and to reside on our website indefinitely, and allows the use of the 2011 Master Design Awards logo. In addition, winners are recognized at QR’s Top 500/Master Design Awards event held the evening before the Remodeling Show kicks off, during which they mingle with the best of the best in the industry and learn from an industry speaker.
If you’ve never entered an awards program or even if you have, you may not be aware of some of the intangibles winning can provide. This year, one of our judges, Michael Klement, principal of Architectural Resource LLC, Ann Arbor, Mich., put it best. I thought I would share his comments:
“The very first design competition I ever entered was your Master Design Awards program back in, I think, 1998. I was blessed with a Gold award and was completely beside myself that I had won. That first event gave me the confidence to go on and grow and flourish as a residential designer to the point where we have now been honored with more than 100 design awards. It all started with QR. That is the legacy this awards program represents to me. You start to understand how significant it was for me to ‘return to my roots’ and give back [by judging] the program that meant so much to me.”
I thought Klement’s words were important for many reasons, most notably because of conversations I’ve had with many of you lately. We all need a boost of confidence now and again to keep us going, especially now. Klement’s words hopefully will motivate you to enter QR’s 2012 Master Design Awards competition; we’ll begin accepting entries after the first of the year through QualifiedRemodeler.com. I know Klement and the other judges (for the list of judges, see page 21) also motivated us to continue improving the Master Design Awards program and ensure the entry and judging processes are straightforward; you’ll benefit from these improvements in 2012.
As you peruse this month’s issue and gather ideas from the 2011 Master Design Awards winners, take a moment to view the video we put together from this year’s two-day judging event on QualifiedRemodeler.com. It certainly will provide even more motivation to be part of this esteemed awards program.
