Eye-Catching Accents Create Chef's Dream Kitchen

The main sink, a dark bronze Elite Bath farm sink, also complements the time period. It is highlighted by a hummingbird motif on its face and a Rohl faucet with a foot pedal to control the water flow. The custom cherry cabinet features a burl-carved center panel that reflects the curvature of the Enkeboll corbels on each side.

Craft-Maid cabinets – cherry and maple painted in a creamy buttermilk color – complement the blue range. The same buttermilk color sheaths a Sub-Zero refrigerator. Other high-end appliances include a Sub-Zero beverage refrigerator, two Miele dishwashers, a Miele coffee maker and icemaker and a GE microwave.

Underfoot, the original hardwood flooring – in a herringbone pattern reminiscent of the 1920s – was refinished.

“Everyone who cooks here loves the space,” Salerno says. “Although everyone knows it’s a new kitchen, it seems original. It fits the home beautifully, and maintains its character. It really is a chef’s dream!”

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

Peter Ross Salerno, CMKBD and owner/president of Peter Salerno, Inc. remodeled the kitchen of a 1920s home in Spring Lake, NJ. The goal was to create a new kitchen that maintained the character of the home with a bit of European flair.

The focal point of the space is a La Cornue Chateau cooker highlighted by a ventilation hood crafted by SimplyAmy, LLC from century-old tin that once adorned a New York City apartment. Tin panel inserts from the same antique collection are incorporated in the island.

A new tin ceiling crafted by the American Tin Company draws attention upward and visually heightens the room, which has 7.5' ceilings. Tall, narrow Craft-Maid upper cabinets that meet the ceiling add to the illusion of height.
