Montgomery, AL — Jim Bishop Cabinets, the manufacturer of semi-custom cabinets, based here, has expanded its manufacturing capabilities, adding a door cell to its operations and giving the company the ability to produce custom doors – one off if necessary – the company has announced.
“Whether it’s a custom kitchen or one custom door—speed is a virtue,” said Jim Bishop Jr. “Custom doors are often a problem for large-scale cabinet manufacturers; it happens more than anyone cares to admit – a custom component delays the job and no one is happy. Worse, no one gets paid.”
Jim Bishop customers often order standard kitchens with a few custom modifications, the company noted. The new door cell operation allows Jim Bishop to ship the completed orders on the same two-week lead times.
“Our biggest motivation for adding this capability was to meet our customers’ expectations,” Bishop said. “If it’s a standard order with a few custom options, we can ship it complete within our standard two- week lead time.”
The new door cell does not make building custom doors more profitable, however, the company said the cost is “nothing compared to the enhanced service it allows us to provide.”
“The investment in additional machines was insignificant,” Bishop said. “The faster turnarounds we provide are far more valuable. The new capability might save the customer a week on the order. And to a customer with a kitchen in disarray, that week is very, very valuable.”
