Study Reveals Higher Use Of Internet by Designers

Washington, DC — Interior designers are increasingly turning to the Internet as a business tool, a study by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has revealed.

The study, whose results were released last month, show that 92% of the interior designers polled use the Internet as part of their daily business activities. In contrast, a study conducted two years ago found that just 25% used the Internet for their design practice.

“Designers and the design industry have become more savvy about how to do business online,” said Michael Berens, director of research for the Washington, DC-based ASID.

“The shift is dramatic,” Berens continued. “An overwhelming majority of designers are using the Internet because it’s faster, more convenient and more up-to-date than traditional sources of information.”

Designers use the Internet for a variety of business-related functions, particularly the selection and research of products, design ideas, building codes and education, ASID officials said.
