Designed by Sandra L. Steiner-Houck, CKD, of Columbia, PA-based Steiner & Houck, Inc., this kitchen captures the character of a colonial farmhouse by including a hutch-style sink area surrounded by Absolute Black Honed granite countertops, Kashmir Gold granite countertops and teak wood countertops. Lining the room are lighted display cabinets from Premier Custom-Built. The cooktop, oven and ventilation are from Wolf Appliance Co., with a fully integrated Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer concealed by a distressed butternut armoire.
This kitchen, designed by Heidi Schuman of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada-based V6B Design Group, features many modern-day conveniences. Schuman created an appliance wall to house the Sub-Zero refrigerator and Panasonic microwave, while two islands house the main storage areas for utensils and smaller appliances. Light taupe custom cabinetry from V6B Design Group with wenge wood accents and aluminum-trimmed glass doors were chosen to match the color scheme of the client’s childhood home in South Africa.
The conversion of this Asian-style bungalow, designed by Jennifer L. Gilmer, CKD, of Jennifer Gilmer Kitchen & Bath, Ltd. in Chevy Chase, MD, takes root in dark Macassar Ebony cabinets from Premier Custom-Built, Absolute Black Honed granite countertops and a wenge butcher block from Spekva USA that slides over the sink. To complete the look, Gilmer chose a Gaggenau cooktop and steam oven, a Kohler pot filler, Sub-Zero wine cooler and refrigerator and Miele dishwasher.
According to designer Tina Muller and co-designer Gail Ann Drury, CKD, CBD, of Glen Ellyn, IL-based Drury Design, this kitchen features the ‘wow’ factor while offering practical food preparation, including a range wall with a Viking Range Corp. oven and a custom, double-stacked hood. The hood is flanked by tall glass cabinets from Grabill Cabinet Co. Inc. while granite countertops offer ample prep space. A Franke Consumer Products sink, Fisher & Paykel dishwasher, Sub-Zero Freezer Co. refrigerator and KitchenAid microwave complete the product lineup.
