2007 NKBA Design Competition Category 4 Natural Material and Stainless Steel Shine in Open Kitchen Designs Open Plan Kitchens (includes great rooms, breakfast nooks and dining rooms)

Technology was the key ingredient in this bachelor’s kitchen, designed by Elina Katsioula-Beall, CKD, and co-designer Sarah Michalowski of Studio City, CA-based DeWitt Designer Kitchens. It includes a built-in refrigerator from Sub-Zero, undercounter GE microwave, and a warming drawer and mini-dishwasher from Miele. Gloss bird’s-eye maple and silver grey thermofoil cabinetry from UltraCraft, as well as Molise marble, granite from Caeserstone Quartz Surfaces and countertops by Eurostone in “Piombo” create a warm and eclectic feel, while the glass-lined, thermofoil backsplash reflects the countertop on the opposite side.

According to Geraldine McCaffrey, of Eurotile Bermuda, based in Hamilton, Bermuda, the mixture of white cabinets and stainless steel appliances in this kitchen create a true beachside masterpiece. The cabinets, from Neff Kitchens, boast internal lighting, and are set off by stainless steel appliances, including a microwave, cooktop, oven and refrigerator from Viking Range Corp. and Best by Broan ventilation. The design, which offers a sense of practical grandeur, features a large, central island with countertops by Noug-Art, Inc. ideal for multiple functions from food prep to family activities.

Gerard Ciccarello, CMKBD, of Westbrook, CT-based Covenant Kitchens & Baths, Inc., renovated this space to offer a stunning water view, converting the previously confined space into an open-plan kitchen complete with cabinetry from Superior Woodcraft. Ciccarello used pale violet pastel colors on the walls, while the island cabinets feature a pale, sage green to mimic the Costa Esmeralda granite perimeter countertops. The kitchen offers two dishwashers from Asko, two Sub-Zero undercounter freezers and a microwave, oven and range from Wolf Appliance Co.

The work of Gerard Ciccarello, CMKBD, of Westbrook, CT-based Covenant Kitchens & Baths, Inc., this kitchen features a mix of pale ivory cabinets with a walnut glaze from Superior Woodcraft, and an island with Calcutta Oyster marble and walnut countertops. Notable is the white bar, which has glass upper cabinets and a hammered stainless steel sink, finished with an extension of crown molding. The product lineup also includes a Sub-Zero undercounter refrigerator, and dishwashers from Asko and Fisher & Paykel.
