2007 NKBA Design Competition Category 9 Showroom Finalists Seek ‘Best in Show’ with Unique Design Ideas Showrooms

Although faced with space constraints, Timothy Huber, CKD, of Scottsdale, AZ-based Affinity Kitchens, was able to meet many requirements in this contemporary display. Stainless steel appliances from Sub-Zero included a refrigerator, two wine coolers and an ice maker. A Beverage Air beer dispenser and Franke waste bin were also included in the design. Items were placed at a 15° angle, which gave the space a modern feel. The high-gloss black backsplash and Black Absolute granite countertops added drama.

This European-style display, designed by Peter Harms of Minneapolis, MN-based North Star Kitchens, LLC, features high-end appliances, such as a microwave, cooktop, oven and range from Wolf Appliance Co., an Asko dishwasher and a Sub-Zero wine cooler. Harms created separate work zones in the space, including a breakfast bar with a prep sink from KWC America mixed with soft-toned cabinetry from Wm Ohs and a Sub-Zero refrigerator. The main cooking area offers multiple appliances, including ventilation by Independent, Inc..

This colorful bath display, designed by Haskell Mathney and co-designer Kathy Massey of Cleveland, OH-based Haskell Interiors Design Collection, features Trend V glass tiles on both the flooring and walls, including the custom poppy mural. The floor features a 12"x12" marine blue glass that anchors the graduated blue, teal and white mosaic tiles on the wall. Cabinetry and countertops from Duravit USA’s ‘In the Mood’ collection, and sink and toilet from its ‘Starck’ collection, enhance the room’s Modernist appeal. The display is completed by fixtures from the Aquadis ‘Cubik’ Collection and a Ginger ‘Kubix’ Series towel bar.

The focal point of this Tuscan-inspired showroom display, designed by Dewitt Talmadge Beall and co-designer Elina Katsioula-Beall of DeWitt Designer Kitchens in Studio City, CA, is the large hearth. It features antique, reclaimed stone pavers and custom low-voltage recessed lighting by DeWitt Designer Kitchens with Elco, Festoon, Xenon light fixtures and light controls by Lutron Electronics . Sitting in the hearth on a Tuscan-style stucco bed is a Russell Range, Inc. cooktop. A stone-carved sink from Walker Zanger sits nearby under the Spekva USA Iroko wood tops. The finishing touches come from Heritage Custom Cabinetry maple cabinets, glazed to resemble pine.
