2007 NKBA Design Competition Category 10 Elegance and Opulence Showcased in Other-Room Design Finalists Other Rooms (other rooms, dining areas, living rooms, etc.)

This highly-detailed dining room, designed by Scott Grandis, CKD, and co-designer Carmen Schultz of Bella Cucina, Inc. in Sylvan Lake, MI, took its inspiration from a Bombay-styled cabinet line. Premier Custom-Built cabinetry was integrated to conceal a sink, Miele dishwasher, Sub-Zero refrigerator and two Wolf Appliance Co. warming drawers. The bottom section of the tall sink cabinet was designed to mimic the detail of the tall cabinet to the left, which contains the refrigerator drawers. The bottom drawers of the sink base are unitized and hinged like a door. Added details include carved pilasters on the backsplash and carved crown molding.

This transitional-styled dining room, designed by Amy Sandack, AKBD, of Glen Ellyn, IL-based Drury Design, features a butler’s pantry packed with storage capabilities and appliances, such as a Sub-Zero wine cooler, Dacor warming drawer and Fisher & Paykel dishwasher. The space features double-sided Grabill Cabinet Co. cabinets cut through the wall to create a breakfront in the dining room. A countertop on the back wall – also from Grabill – provides ample space for staging food.

Created as an elegant storage option during dinner parties, this china room – designed by Scott Grandis, CKD, and co-designer Carmen Schultz of Sylvan Lake, MI-based Bella Cucina, Inc. – features cabinetry from Premier Custom-Built that is tightly constructed wall-to-wall for a crafted fit in the U-shaped room. The cabinetry is complemented by a coved ceiling, onyx countertops and a crystal chandelier. Modern conveniences balance the more traditional elements of the space, including an integrated dishwasher from Miele, which features special settings for china and crystal, fixtures from Harrington Brass Works and flooring from Johnson Hardwood Floors.

A blend of tradition, function and opulence was in order for this living room. Designed by Tracey Scalzo, CKD, CBD, of Eurotech Cabinetry, along with Fabiola Softas, the layout features several seating areas, a working bar and entertainment center. The bar area has two sinks from Rohl LLC and a fully integrated dishwasher from Asko. A finished bar height of 42" accommodates the client’s height and allows for operable drawers above a bank of appliances.
