2007 NKBA Design Competition Category 11 Non-Residential Design Finalists Reflect Elegance and Stature Non-Residential Spaces (reception areas, restaurants and cooking schools)

This renovated upscale office, designed by Sandra L. Steiner-Houck, CKD, of Steiner & Houck, Inc. in Columbia, PA, includes a large mahogany desk with custom leather inlays and complementary credenza. A mahogany and maple armoire was paired with cabinetry from Premier Custom-Built cabinetry to provide ample storage. The rich tones of the cabinets are offset by the Cream Azul Bahia granite countertops, and contrast well with the custom Fabrica inlaid carpet with ceramic tile borders that define the conference area.

A simplistic design and breathtaking river views are the calling cards of this office designed by Sandra L. Steiner-Houck, CKD, of Columbia, PA-based Steiner & Houck, Inc. Steiner-Houck incorporated floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as light fixtures by Visa Lighting, which serve to enhance the view. A custom cherry desk and credenza give the space an elegant, professional style, and a Premier Custom-Built lighted glass display case adds drama. Custom Fabrica inlaid carpet with ceramic tile borders offer a subtle complement to the natural greens and earth tones used in the room, and mesh seamlessly with the Jungle Green granite specified for the small conference table.

To capture a look that reflected the position of power the client holds, Sandra L. Steiner-Houck, CKD, of Columbia, PA-based Steiner & Houck, Inc., combined function with elegant aesthetics. A custom mahogany desk with a leather inlaid top makes a statement in the room, while custom Fabrica inlayed carpets with Black Galaxy granite borders define the work area from the conference area. A lighted display case, courtesy of Premier Custom-Built, was positioned centrally within the room. The window sills were capped with Black Galaxy granite to coordinate with the black granite floor tiles.

This wine room, designed by Mark Morris of Brisbane, CA-based Mark Morris Design Group, offers all of the elements needed for a personal wine retreat. Custom cabinetry finished in walnut, steel and glass, from Kraft Furniture, was created from sequenced matched panels of quarter-sawn walnut. The cabinets provide a serene complement to the Golden Onyx CornerStone tile countertop. Jenn-Air wine storage features backlit frosted glass panels, which creates an intimate setting for art displays or wine-tasting gatherings.
