Holstein, IA — VT Industries, the Holstein, IA-based manufacturer of postformed laminate countertops, architectural wood doors and cabinets doors, is concluding a year-long 2006 celebration of its 50th year in business this month.
The company, which opened this year with the introduction of a 50th-anniversary logo, marked its milestone anniversary with a series of events. Among the company’s introductions in 2006 was a new “EQcountertop” that uses no added urea-formaldehyde particleboard, water-based adhesives and Greenguard indoor air quality-certified laminates.
Founded as Van Top Inc., a two-man shop, VT remains family owned, and has grown from a single kitchen countertop and bath vanity manufacturer to a multi-national corporation with eight manufacturing facilities across North America.
Company president and CEO Doug Clausen attributes the company’s longevity to its employees, as well as to aggressive moves made by VT in implementing innovative manfacturing technology, quality control systems and order processing.
“Being a privately held company allows us to react quickly to changes in the marketplace, which has been a key to our success,” said Clausen, whose father Roger founded the company in 1956. “You have to have a competitively priced, higher-quality product than you’ve ever had before, and provide it in a shorter amount of time to succeed today.”
Roger Clausen, widely recognized for pioneering the postformed laminate countertop industry, was inducted into the NKBA’s Industry Hall of Fame in 2005. Doug Clausen became president and CEO in 1989.
