With the way that some homes are designed, it is the garage that stands out and gives the first impression. To avoid the cookie-cutter standardization of garage doors, Raynor Worldwide is breaking this mold and focusing on specialization.
The Garage Doors Product Spotlight in August introduced Qualified Remodeler’s readers to Raynor, which is currently in its third generation of family ownership, and its RiverPointe wood carriage garage doors. The RiverPointe doors feature the detail of Raynor’s higher-end American Rivers collection. Custom wood doors are available in four models that swing, fold or slide open. This collection also includes Western Red Cedar surface material in either a 4-in. V-groove, smooth or bead-board surface.
“Generally anything that anyone is offering, we can do it too,” says Charlie Ferris, product development manager for Raynor Worldwide. “We specialize in the special items where as other companies have highly standardized.”
Raynor’s focus on customization allows it to offer customers their own track systems, door sizes and, because of its powder coating system, it can also offer homeowners approximately 200 colors. According to Ferris, with a large part of their business in the retrofit market, Raynor does cater to the new home market and positions themselves as the place to go for out-of-the-ordinary designs.
“Raynor is seen by preferred suppliers as the Cadillac of the garage door industry,” says Ferris. “This is a status we maintain by working with a distribution network only. You can’t go into Home Depot and pick up one of our garage doors.”
With its online Design-A-Door software, Raynor customers can go in and customize their own garage doors. The options include door size and color, panel style and window design. This then allows the client to compare different Raynor products that meet these specifications to decide on the door that is just right for them.
Raynor’s focus will continue to be a highly customizable product company, Ferris insists. Coming up in new launches, Raynor plans on releasing a maintenance-free carriage house product and upgrades to existing models. Besides their steel and wood line of garage doors, Raynor is also planning on launching customized offerings in residential aluminum.
