In its 28th year, the Master Design Awards has set a precedent within the design community of residential remodelers. With 300+ entries, this year’s program was extremely competitive in all 21 categories — from extravagant whole-house renovations to the essential challenges of designing an accessible home.
The judging took place June 14-15 at the Mid-Day Club, overlooking Chicago’s famous skyline. In an attempt to get a broad range of remodeling talent, QR flew in judges from every region of the country: Dennis Allen, Allen & Associates, Santa Barbara, Calif; Greg Miedema, CGR, CGB, CAPS, Dakota Builders, Tucson, Ariz.; Toni LaPelusa, CR, LaPelusa Home Improvements, Niles, Ill.; John Quaregna, CR, Jay-Cue Construction, North Bergen, N.J.; and Patricia Davis Brown, NCIDQ, ASID, CKD, CBD, PDB Fine Cabinetry, Vero Beach, Fla.
Over the next 21 pages, the Gold winners are showcased along with the companies that won Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention awards. Also, in partnership with Chrysalis, recipients of both Chrysalis and Master Design Awards for the same project are recognized with a special JANUS award. This year the Master Design Awards produced 21 Gold place winners, 21 Silver place winners, 20 Bronze winners and five Honorable Mentions. Among these winners were two exceptional Best Projects that include a Detached Structure on pg. 58 and a Bathroom over $50,000 on pg. 35.
Note: Call for Entries into the 2007 Master Design Awards begins in December. Projects must be completed between January 1, 2006 and May 26, 2007.
