Villeroy & Boch Acquires St. Thomas

METTLACH, Germany — Villeroy & Boch AG, the Germany-based ceramics and sanitaryware manufacturer, has made its first-ever acquisition of a North American company, corporate officials announced.

Villeroy & Boch’s purchase of the sanitaryware business from Grupo Industrial Saltillo, one of Mexico’s leading industrial corporations, included three factories that produce St. Thomas Creations and Vitromex products, the company said last month.

The acquisition was announced by Frank Goering, worldwide leader of Villeroy & Boch’s Bath and Wellness division.

The purchase price was not disclosed, but the acquired operations posted 2005 sales of $60 million, according to Villeroy & Boch, whose worldwide headquarters are located here.

According to Goering, the National City, CA-based St. Thomas, as well as Vitromex, will continue to operate independently of Villeroy & Boch, with their own management, sales operations and distribution channels.

“Nothing is going to change,” Goering said. “The companies will be run separately, just as they are currently.”
