HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — Nevamar Company and VT Industries, in partnership with the NKBA, have launched a new design competition for the kitchen and bath industry, the manufacturers announced.
In the competition, entitled the “Over the Counter(Top) Design Competition,” Nevamar and VT Industries are challenging NKBA professionals and student members to submit “innovative design ideas utilizing high-pressure laminate (HPL) with postformed, beveled, and wood edges, as they envision the laminate countertop of the future.”
The competition features two categories – Best Idea/Professional and Best Idea/Student. First-place winners in each category will receive $1,000, while second-place winners will receive $500, according to the companies. In addition, there will be a $250 merit prize awarded in each category.
Completed entries must be submitted by March 1, 2006, with winners to be announced at the 2006 NKBA Board of Directors’ Gala on the eve of the Kitchen/Bath Industry Show (K/BIS) in April.

The Odenton, MD-based Nevamar produces a range of decorative surface products, including high-pressure laminates, thermofused melamine panels, metal laminates and other products for residential and commerical use. VT Industries, headquartered in Holstein, IA, manufactures laminate countertops, architectural wood doors and cabinet doors.
