Kirkby Named To 'Who's Who'
Kirkby, who has been associated with K&BDN for more than 12 years, was honored for his 30 years of experience and professionalism, and his achievements in the publishing field, according to the West Islip, NY-based National Register, which profiles top executives in a wide array of businesses. Ratings with Dun & Bradstreet and personal interviews are also used in the selection process, the company said.
Kirkby, who is based at K&BDN's offices here, began his career in sales in 1974, selling advertising in the Boston Celtics' Game Program. He entered the trade publishing field in 1980, where he worked at National Home Center News (now Home Channel News). While there, he created the "Max-Use" rate promotion program, which was a key factor in the rise of the publication from the sixth position in a seven-magazine market to the number one spot.
After being named National Ad Sales Director for K&BDN in late-1993, he was instrumental in implementing a new rate structure, hiring and training a new sales staff, and spearheading a sales effort that has resulted in the magazine increasing its advertising market share by more than 40%, to a 70% share in 2003..
