Building Code Groups Merge

Las Vegas, NV The nation's top three building code organizations have merged into a single entity, to be called the International Code Council (ICC).

The merger was announced during an official signing ceremony at the recent International Builders Show here.
The ICC's founding organizations, which had operated under the BOCA, ICBO and SBCCI names, were at one time competing entities.

"This newly united organization will be stronger, more streamlined and better equipped to deliver services to the building industry," said National Association of Home Builders president Gary Garczynski. "It will also be better able to combat challenges to adoption of the International Residential Code the first national residential building code developed with significant home builder input and a focus on housing affordability," he added.

The NAHB applauded the merger as a means of implementing a "simple, user-friendly, stand-alone" nationwide housing code.
