Quality Cabinets Gains ISO 14001 Certification

Duncanville, TX Quality Cabinets, the Duncanville, TX division of the Masco-owned Texwood Industries, has become the first cabinet manufacturer in the world to receive the ISO 14001 Certification for Environment Excellence, company officials announced.

The company, which has an 850,000-sq.-ft. factory in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Duncanville, as well as a 250,000-sq.-ft. plant in Mt. Sterling, KY, said it successfully completed all of the standards for the prestigious ISO Certification by the end of last year.

The standards were developed several years ago by the International Organization of Standards (ISO), in an effort to assist companies worldwide in implementing effective environmental management systems.

Quality's two factories produce more than 250,000 kitchens a year for home builders and kitchen/ bath dealers throughout the U.S., according to the company.

"It's great that we received this certification; it means we are a company that cares about the environment and puts our concerns into action," said company v.p./sales and marketing Bob Anderson, adding that, to the best of his knowledge, there are no other cabinet companies certified.

"I believe we have an obligation to do everything possible to prevent damage to our environment and to provide a 'green' and safe workplace for our employees," Anderson said. "The ISO name carries a lot of awareness among informed consumers. This is a win- win situation for us and our customers."

According to Steve Byron, corporate v.p./engineering, the certification was a result of the company's practices in reducing waste and the adverse environmental impact from Quality Cabinets' plant operations. Ongoing environmental programs include landfill reduction, hazardous waste reduction and reduced volatile organic compounds.
