K&BDN-NKBA Seminar Series Set for '01 Kickoff
Hackensack, NJ The first of five scheduled programs in the popular "Managing for Profit" seminar series, aimed at kitchen and bath dealers and remodelers, will take place next month in the Boston area, event organizers announced.
The kickoff seminar part of a unique educational series co-produced by Kitchen & Bath Design News and the National Kitchen & Bath Association is scheduled for Wednesday, April 11 at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel in Norwood, MA.
The seminar, entitled "Professional Marketing & Showroom Selling for Today's New Marketplace," will be the first of its kind ever offered by K&BDN and the NKBA. The all-day session begins at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast, extends through a complementary lunch, and concludes at 4:30 p.m. Helping to underwrite the initiative will be co-sponsor Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry.
"The insights contained in all of our 'Managing for Profit' programs guarantee that attendees will leave at the end of the day head and shoulders above where they were at the start of the day," said K&BDN editorial director and publisher Eliot Sefrin. "These seminars are easy to get to, and provide an invaluable dialogue among the participants.
It's not just the presentation by our instructors, it's the interaction between attendees the audience participation, the role-playing that makes a real difference.
"Attendees openly exchange ideas and experiences, sharing what works for their companies and what doesn't," Sefrin said.
The "Managing for Profit" program, which has met with highly favorable response since its debut two years ago, has been expanded in 2001 to include metropolitan markets in the Northeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Southwest. The seminar series has also been expanded from one to two distinct tracks the successful business/ financial management track, plus a new sales and marketing track.
Two leading industry educators Stephen Vlachos, CKD, CBD and Hank Darlington will once again lead the programs in '01, according to Sefrin.

Professional Marketing & Showroom Selling for Today's New Marketplace
Targeted at kitchen/bath showroom managers, designers, and sales professionals, this seminar will probe such topics as the key characteristics of successful salespeople; establishing your product mix and client identity; defining and sharpening your marketing approach, and identifying and capitalizing on your competitor's weaknesses. Also included will be such areas as qualifying prospects; selling features and benefits; charging a design fee; responding to objections; techniques for closing the sale; the use of displays and other showroom sales tools; new technology in the showroom; generating referrals, and more.

Business & Financial Strategies To Improve Your Bottom
Aimed at the owners of kitchen and bath dealerships, this seminar delivers practical, in-depth strategies regarding budgets, finances, profit margins, job costing, buying strategies, customer service, personnel and administration. Also covered are such topics as industry performance benchmarks against which to measure your company, compensation issues, lines of credit, exit strategies, and how to negotiate with vendors for displays, discounts, rebates, payment terms and co-op programs.

NKBA members can register for either seminar for $100; non-members pay $175; sponsors' customers and guests are admitted free of charge. "Managing for Profit" attendees also qualify for ongoing professional development credits (OPD) and continuing educational units (CEU).
