Walt Diamond Honored at DPH Function
Chicago Walter Diamond, widely considered to be the innovator of
the "one-stop-shopping" concept in the kitchen and bath industry,
was honored for his years of industry leadership and service at a
special event here last month.
Diamond, a co-founder of the major Santa Monica, CA-based distributorship Snyder Diamond, was honored by some 500 people at the Decorative Plumbing & Hardware Network Night cocktail reception, conducted in conjunction with April's Kitchen/Bath Industry Show (K/BIS).
Diamond, who founded Snyder Diamond as a plumbing supply house
along with partner Lou Snyder in 1956, is credited for eventually
creating large, vignette-style showrooms displaying kitchen
cabinets, appliances, countertops and decorative plumbing and
hardware products.
Diamond also worked closely with pioneering faucet manufacturers in
helping to introduce new
finishes and such features as decorative handles.
Snyder Diamond, in addition, was one of the nation's first "whotailers" selling both wholesale and retail as well as one of the nation's first Corian fabricators, handling all of its own in-house sales and fabrication. The company, which serviced 11 western states, was also one of the first in the U.S. to introduce European-made products into the American market.
Delta Awards Kitchen, Bath Makeover
Indianapolis, IN Delta Faucet Co. has announced the winners of its Web-based "Delta Dreams Sweepstakes," with Leesburg, GA homeowner Belinda Hauber winning the grand prize of $20,000 to pay for a kitchen or bath makeover.
Five first-place winners also won Delta faucets for their entire home, and 35 second-place winners won their choice of any Delta Brilliance pearl nickel lavatory faucet, according to the Indianapolis-based faucet manufacturer, a unit of Masco Corp.
"We knew that a targeted program of advertising and promotion
would entice consumers to participate in this type of Web-based
activity," said Ray Kennedy, v.p. of the Delta Business Unit.
"And, the chance to win a dream kitchen or bathroom remodel added
even more excitement," Kennedy added.
The contest, promoted through the Delta Faucet Web site, drew 648,450 entries, including 374,000 web-based entries, Delta said. Winners were selected at random.
