LamTech Opens Production Plant

Ephrata, PA LamTech, Inc., a major manufacturer of countertops based here, has opened a 90,000-sq.-ft. facility in Chambersburg, PA to produce its "Marblux" line of cultured marble vanity tops under the terms of an alliance with American Woodmark Corp., the company announced.

LamTech is a leading source of laminate and solid surface countertops, as well as cultured marble vanity tops, to a four-state area, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland
and Delaware. The company entered the kitchen and bath industry in 1984 as Jem-son Cabinetry, a distributor of cabinets to new home builders.

Growth throughout the mid-1980s prompted Jemson in 1988 to begin producing its own countertops. LamTech was later founded as a separate corporation, to sell countertops to kitchen and bath dealers and home centers. Eventually, LamTech began manufacturing its own cultured marble vanity tops.

"American Woodmark is a large customer of LamTech countertops and Marblux cultured marble vanity tops," said CEO Ray Martin. "LamTech's alliance with American Woodmark allows us to direct cabinet business to them, and for them to direct increased countertop and vanity top business to us.

"This is typical of the type of partnerships that are being developed in today's market. We believe that the synergy created will be a win-win relationship," Martin added.

The Jemson Cabinetry showroom will be sold to David Palm, a LamTech sales representative, Martin said. Palm will continue to serve remodelers and retail customers under the Jemson Cabinetry name with a variety of kitchen and bath products and services, Martin added.
