Tub-to-Shower Conversion

An often-cited trend by remodelers is homeowners’ desire to remove bathtubs they aren’t using and replace them with showers. Frisco, Colo.-based Quick Drain USA has created a kit tailored to address homeowners’ desires in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

The Quick Drain Tub-to-Shower Conversion System offers standard, standard-extended and ADA-compliant shower options. Components, including quartz-surface walls, drain, showerhead, valve, waterproofing, base shower pan and more, are included in the system. According to Josef Erlebach, Quick Drain’s vice president, potential customers can go online, click on the tub-to-shower conversion icon and select the system’s various components. Quick Drain also created the Extra Shower system for people who want a shower positioned in a place where there hadn’t been a tub or shower previously.

In most cases, the entire system (before tiling) can be installed by a professional contractor in less than one hour with a utility knife, thin-set trowel, fast-setting/self-curing thin-set, mixing tools and a screwdriver. The installation process does not require plumbing-location changes, which saves time and labor. When the correct thin-set is used, the shower pan can be tiled the same day the tub is removed. Any type of tile can be used, including ceramic, glass, metal, porcelain and stone.

“Now American homeowners can have their bathrooms updated beautifully, professionally and affordably,” Erlebach concludes.

The tub-to-shower conversion kit is fully compliant with plumbing codes; it is listed by the International Code Council and International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials.
