The "New Moon Cottage" is a weekend and summer residence that includes a surfboard storage room as a focal point adjacent to the main entrance for easy site access. Western Red Cedar was chosen as the primary exterior building material for its durability and warm natural appearance. Extremely restrictive site constraints such as building coverage and setback requirements on a small, narrow, irregular-shaped waterfront lot challenged the team. Requirements called for a 20-ft. setback along the front of the property, 10-ft. along the side and rear and 15-ft. along the water's edge. The plan had taken on a linear quality and somewhat serpentine flow to satisfy the client's program while achieving maximum openness and efficiency.
