This home is a reinterpretation of the Classic White Box of the 1960s and ’70s. Built for empty nesters, it is set up as a two-bedroom home. However, the workout room, office and studio could be converted into additional bedrooms. Accessible by stairs or elevator, the master suite, workout room, TV loft and three balconies take up the entire second floor. The home focuses on attention to detail, leading-edge technology and indoor/outdoor living. The lot and neighboring buildings provided a design challenge, as the rear of the lot backs up to a three-story condominium building and its alley, creating a privacy issue. To create privacy, the home was designed in a “C” shape and the west walls without windows. The solid west wall in the living room is used to display art, while the center of the home opens to a courtyard/pool area via sliding glass panels. Indoor/outdoor areas provide ample private entertainment space. LEED Platinum requirements were followed from the earliest stages of design.
