PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Conceived as an island retreat for a busy executive, the main intent of the design was to capture both bay and gulf views from the elevated living floors, while preserving the natural coastal hammock habitat of the inland waterway side of the property. A workmanship tolerance of 1⁄8 in. was required between all of the structural and interior finish components to maintain the collaboration of the architectural and interior design intent. Constructed in 20 months, the project exemplifies integration and collaboration of true craftsmanship from structural concrete through fine architectural and interior finishes. As all of the interior and exterior flooring was cast-in-place, consisting of white Portland cement with integral washed shell, all of the finished flooring was installed, ground smooth, polished and sealed before any of the interior walls or doors and windows were put in place. Protection of the finish flooring was required during all remaining phases of construction through project completion.
