PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Sited on the cusp of a lakefront knob, this shingle-style home anchors a location where dramatic open-water views across the expanse of Lake Keowee cede to the sheltering enclosure of a tranquil cove. The home is divided among three floors arranged to frame views from each living space. Inside, five bedroom suites, an open great room, kitchen, game room and observatory accommodate comfortable family gatherings at various scales. Fireplace-equipped screened porches are connected by a covered promenade and encourage outdoor living. The narrow, sloping and irregularly shaped lakefront site imposed many restrictions on the home given its sizable building program. Once the lakefront setback requirement was taken into account, only a sliver of land remained. To fulfill the owners’ wishes, the home ultimately would have at least seven points where it touches the various setback lines. The resulting building form, materials and details work within the setting, taking advantage of topography and site features that marry the house with its natural surroundings.
