PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Providing a Tuscan-styled house with comfortable space for every member, mood and activity was the objective. Programming required the inclusion of the separate master suite, sleeping, bathing and studying spaces for two children, as well as guest accommodations. A main-level hub in which activities could be coordinated and communication made easy between adjacent spaces suggested sequencing of mud room, laundry, office, kitchen, hearth room, dining and family gathering spaces, along with library and formal entertaining rooms. Restricted by a lot on an environmental corridor, challenges included a limited allowable area for the building envelope; associated environmental concerns and restrictions; nestling the structure into a topography that drastically changed over very little distance; and disguising modern lifestyle amenities to reflect an architecturally accurate Tuscan style. Carefully chosen materials blend the home with the landscape. Conscientious site positioning utilizes passive solar techniques, and affords the owner breathtaking views.
