Project Name:
Villa al Dichiotto
Location: Timnath, Colo.
Size: 764 sq. ft.
Cost (total): $1.4 million
Photos: Warren Diggles Photography
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Originally a spec home, it is located on the 18th green of a new country club. The kitchen was designed for entertaining and meant to feel as the epicenter of the home. Driven by the Tuscan design, the kitchen and great room create the Great Hall concept prevalent in the Tuscan style. The most significant design challenge was a large space and its tall ceiling. Goals included creating something luxurious, but cozy and of course highly functional. Ceiling height was a challenge solved with the use of the exposed trusses that begin at the great room fireplace and continue to the kitchen hood. The use of two islands creates space for the cook as well as for those being entertained. A unique element is the island countertop which is 3-in.-thick walnut with an elegantly routed edge.
Judges’ Comments:
“Nice details, truss, backsplash and darker island cabinets.”
