Project Name: The New American Home
Location: Winter Park, Fla.
Size: 4,183 sq. ft.
Cost: $1.5 million
Homeowner’s occupation: Architect and builder

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The lot backs up to a three-story condominium building and its alley. To create privacy, the home was designed in a “C” shape with a courtyard in the center. To reduce noise from the alley, all western walls were built without windows. As a result, the living room became an unusually long space with a solid western wall. With art collectors as owners, the solution was to transform the room into an art gallery. Warmth was created by adding wall texture with a stone veneer. A floating ceiling and mimicing carpet placement define spaces. Furniture groupings provide intimate sitting arrangements. A bar with an LED-lighted art glass backsplash was designed to facilitate entertaining and to be a visual draw to the end of the room.
Judges’ Comments:
