Who started your company? I did
When and how did you choose this career?
While in college, I started working for my uncle’s remodeling/home building company.
After college, I found a career path at that company and transferred from being a carpenter to foreman to estimator to project manager.
What does being part of NAHB mean to you?
It is great to know we have top-notch folks supporting us and watching our backs in Washington, D.C.
How has the remodeling profession changed since you’ve been involved?
A large increase in professionalism industry-wide, and the communication stream is now highly advanced and quick. I started in this world prior to cell phones and pagers; back then people really did have to plan everything, not wing it.
What have you done to grow your business during the current economy?
Joined a national peer group and added two to three home shows per year to increase my number of leads.
What is the most unusual project your company has completed?
Creating a beautiful performance space for recitals in the home of two music teachers.
What is the best advice you’ve received?
From a prospective employer, start your own business.
What did you do before becoming a remodeler?
As you were growing up, what did you want to be?
Olympic pole vaulter or photographer.
What is your favorite item in your office?
A photo of Stonehenge.
What motivates you every day?
If a movie was made about your life, who would be cast as you?
My son, Jacob — he has the acting bug.
