The clients are empty nesters. They had very simple requirements for the floor plan: 3 bedrooms with en-suite baths, office, area for a piano, and indoor/outdoor living. They also wanted a "green" certified home. The challenge was that the clients wanted to reach the highest level of green certification in the LEED for Homes program (Platinum). A sustainable design and using green products including ICF's, expanding foam insulation, two solar systems, high efficiency heat pump, Low-e windows and doors, LED lighting, ENERGY STAR-rated appliances, water-wise fixtures, artificial turf, ultra-violet air treatment system, low VOC paints and a whole home dehumidification system. The most noteworthy "green" features include the air tightness of the home's thermal shell and the use of solar energy for space conditioning, hot water production, and a portion of the electrical systems. The home earned a HERS score of 48 and its targeted LEED-H Platinum certification. This home also won 2012 Orlando Home of the Year.
