Inspired by winemaking, monasteries

This monastic-inspired home provides open-water views across the neighboring lake. Inspiration for this home’s design came from rural monastery and winemaking structures of Western Europe. The goal was to imbue it with the character of a structure evolved over centuries of adaptation and evolution. The resulting building forms, materials and details work together with the natural, rocky landscape to anchor the home on its site. Hand cut fieldstone, Italian limestone, copper and cedar elements work in harmony to create a structure that leaves visitors with the impression that the home has been on the site for ages.
