Remodel makes bathroom accessible

Although the original master bathroom was large, it was not designed with accessibility in mind in an aging-in-place environment. The main focus was the walk-in shower. Elements of the shower include a lower curb for ease of entry, a 36-in.-wide opening to allow for shower chairs in the space, decorative grab bars and an adjustable hand held shower. A walk-in tub replaced the Jacuzzi. Other elements include outlets for a curling iron and blow dryer, mirror placement for easy viewing and a decorative hutch to hold smaller toiletries, wash cloths and towels. A phone jack also is incorporated to provide an inconspicuous place for a telephone.
