The empty-nester clients wanted Mediterranean architecture with an interior feel described as rustic and comfortable, yet refined. The kitchen was a focal point of the home, but also a challenge as these clients love to cook and entertain and wanted to coordinate food preparation while entertaining guests, yet always maintain an impeccable "show quality" appearance to the kitchen. Another challenge was the request for an open, round interior dining room made of real stone with no visible column supports. A separate kitchen baking center was created, allowing ovens/baking appliances to be hidden. Glass refrigerator doors, pizza oven, gourmet appliances and adjacent pantry/office combined to create the show quality look and compliment the wood table/island built for entertaining. The round dining room was created with support beams inside the walls and dome ceiling and stone was sheered and hung from ceiling supports.
