Creating a transitional space kitchen

The empty-nester couple wanted to update and increase the storage of their daylight ranch kitchen while creating an efficient transitional space for multiple cooks suitable for entertaining. By straightening and lengthening the wall the separated the kitchen and living room, the contractor increased the width of the kitchen to create a U-shaped room. Re-framing the ceiling created a flat plane to add recessed lighting to and accommodate taller upper cabinets. Horizontal mosaic tile backsplash also helps to create the illusion this kitchen is larger as it draws attention toward the chimney hood.
