Designers were challenged to create warm, inviting spaces conducive to living comfortable country lives that would also be a showcase for the homeowner’s eclectic and valuable collection of artifacts. Intense natural sunlight had to be subdued to protect the collection, and illuminated space created for both gallery and day-to-day use. Fireplaces, then, served the dual effect of providing additional lighting and furthering the feeling of home.
