WINCHESTER, Va., Nov. 5, 2008 – The Royal Shenandoah Greenway soon will be even more “green” thanks to a recent donation of eco-friendly materials from Trex Company. The nation’s largest manufacturer of composite decking, railing and fencing, donated more than $10,000 worth of Trex Brasilia® to the Front Royal, Va., and Warren County Tree Stewards, the volunteer organization spearheading the Greenway’s development in conjunction with Front Royal’s Beautification Committee.
“We are pleased to support the renovation of the Royal Shenandoah Greenway, which serves an area where many Trex employees and customers live, work and play,” said Ronald W. Kaplan, president and CEO for Trex. “Trex’s donation will allow these individuals to enjoy their leisure time in comfort, while also maintaining the environmental integrity of the Greenway.”
The Royal Shenandoah Greenway connects the area’s extensive network of walking and biking trails, which promote healthy lifestyles and safer commutes for school children, while in turn reducing the need for gas consumption and pollution. The Greenway also provides access to local outdoor attractions including the 3,000 acre Smithsonian Conservation Research Center, Shenandoah National Park, Shenandoah River, Appalachian Trail and the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center.
The Trex materials in “Cayenne” color will be used to build 25 picnic tables and 50 benches along the Greenway. The outdoor furniture will be installed throughout a 3.5-acre area, which includes locations like the Shenandoah Boat Launching Park and the John Marshall Highway entering Front Royal.
“Trex’s durable and eco-friendly products are perfect additions to the rest areas along the Royal Shenandoah Greenway,” said Dagmar Loose, president of the Front Royal and Warren Country Tree Stewards. “Trex is a well-known and trusted product that’s manufactured locally. We’re excited to partner with a company that is as committed to protecting and preserving the environment as our organization.”
Trex products are made primarily from a unique formulation of reclaimed wood and plastic, combined through a proprietary process. Trex Brasilia features the attractive look of tropical hardwood combined with the advantages of low maintenance. Brasilia stands up to extreme weather and insects, and never requires staining or oiling to maintain its rich, authentic look.
